What is BioPerine?
BioPerine is the trademark of an extract of common household spice ‘black pepper’. The main ingredient in BioPerine is “Piperine”. Black pepper is in medication use from ancient time in India, and Piperine also has a long history of traditional and ancient medical use.
Process of extraction
Black pepper is cultivated in nutrition rich soil (mostly in Southeast Asia, China, south India, and Vietnam). To get BioPerine, black pepper needs to be harvested just before its ripening and then dried in the sun. This assures the retention of optimum quality. The BioPerine used in any supplement has to go under clinical testing, and these tastings are mostly conducted in the United States.
Black pepper in its original form is used in the treatment of several illnesses such as constipation, insomnia, diarrhea, insect bites, joint pain, sunburn, tooth decay, toothaches, sore throat, throat congestion, cough etc. The BioPerine, which is extracted form of black pepper is used in several medications for its property of absorbing other nutritional elements. It is able to increase the absorption of three categories of elements — fat-soluble (beta-carotene), water-soluble (vitamin B6) and a mineral (selenium, in the form of selenomethionine).
Goods: BioPerine is added in herbal supplements, then its nutritional elements are better absorbed by the body, which results in higher effectiveness of that supplement.
Bads: Mild gastrointestinal problems such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea are most common. Black pepper can irritate the stomach and cause heartburn when taken in excessive amounts.

Damiana leaves contain a chemical named as ‘Damianin‘, it produces the relaxation effect in central nervous system. That is why it is used as an anti – depressant, and used in the treatment of mood disorders. It is also used for better hormone balancing (like during menopause in women). Epimedium has been used as sexual desire enhancer since ancient times. Many species of Epimedium have aphrodisiac qualities because of its main ingredient (component) named as icariin. It proved by modern science that icariin produce nitric oxide, increases its level, smoothen the spongy tissues of the penis, and able to help getting good erections. The mechanism of action is very similar to that of sildenafil (more commonly known as Viagra) and vardenafil (more commonly known as Levitra). Icariin weakly inhibits PDE-5. But there is one important advantage of using Epimedium instead of sildenafil or vardenafil. Epimedium has been shown to up-regulate genes associated with nitric oxide production and changes in adenosine / guanine monophosphate balance in ways that other PDE5 inhibitors do not, as mentioned in Wikipedia.
Besides its use as aphrodisiac herb, it is also popularly in use for treatment of Osteoporosis. It has been proved that icariin is able to initiate the process of bone formulation.
